Double-stack container shipment testing on Kazakhstan’s railway network, part of the Middle Corridor, has been successfully completed

The growth of rail shipments along the Middle Corridor relies on the adoption of new technologies. Recently, KTZ Express, a subsidiary of the Kazakh Railways, successfully conducted a trial of double-stack container transportation on the Kazakh rail network.

Double-stack container platforms are cost-efficient, as they enable the shipment of 156 containers per standard train unit instead of 108. This results in a 44% increase in rail capacity and leads to reduced operational expenses across the corridor.

Similar trains are used in both the United States and India, with India being the only country where double-stack rail transport is most widespread. This is because the high volume of freight movement in India's densely populated regions drives the demand for more economical transportation solutions.

The new innovation implemented on the Kazakh railway network is expected to yield favorable results in boosting shipments along the Middle Corridor.
